The pig roast was postponed until tomorrow, so I have today free, and I couldn't be happier.
Yesterday I ended up going out for a couple of cocktails with my friend F from school. So much for grabbing take out on my way and heading home after school. [Background: F was the Bio teacher on maternity leave when I got hired as a sub. She took an extra year off, and I was hired for a year--although she ended up working half time that year. By the end of that year, our numbers had gone up again and we had another half time teacher in the budget so she came back full time and I stayed on full time. We've been friends since that time.] Anyway, after that, I stopped to eat out and was home by 6:30. I crashed on the couch almost immediately, woke up around 9 for an hour or so and went to bed. I slept until 9:30 this morning. I NEVER do that.
I'm just back from errands, enjoying a Bloody Mary, getting ready to work some culinary magic in my kitchen while I wait for the rain. I'm making farfalle with broccoli and pancetta, a Giada recipe I modified a little, and a thin thin thin crust pizza with caramelized onions and mushrooms that I make, inspired by something I had at Sonsie in Boston. Pasta leftovers I'll eat this week; the pizza I'll cut in squares and freeze. So it's official. This nesting thing, this return to the kitchen? Pretty much summer is over.
I'll report back later with a critique of my cooking. Hope you're enjoying the weekend so far.
Love, B
