Hey, A,
Have you ever been too tired for a glass of wine? Happens to me infrequently, I must say, but tonight is one of those nights I don't have the energy to catch a buzz. Given that I am a fan of the evening buzz, I'm sure it has mostly to do with the 2 Benadryls I had to take before getting my nails done. Oh, the price of beauty! Guess I'll just have to spend most of the night supine, with my Eliz Berg in hand.
Tomorrow night a few friends--including my close friend J, who left teaching after having twins a couple of years ago, and whom I haven't seen in quite some time--will be meeting here around 6 before we all go over to the wake. How glad am I that I've decided to become a domestic goddess of late??? I have a physical therapy appointment after school tomorrow so I wouldn't have time to do any cleaning-on-crack acts, but I don't need to. And I even have a few bottles of wine on hand from TJs (they have a 4 dollar Sangiovese (Il Valore) I really like) from my excursion to Natick on Sunday. Anyway, the gods have obviously been conspiring with me. Nice. Talk about positive reinforcement for keeping a guest-ready place. You never know...(reminds me of a cleaning story to tell another time)
Positive reinforcement came to me from my students today too--about my hair. Yesterday I had it highlighted, and cut. I wanted to keep the same style: long layers. Because I hadn't had it done since July 8, right before the wedding, I knew it would take a couple of inches to get back there. And that's where I wanted it. Exactly like in the pictures I sent. So I said "take a good couple of inches off." Apparently, to my hairdresser this meant four or so inches. Well, the chair twirl back around to the mirror wasn't too bad. It looked cute. As she said, it was sassy. I think, okay, I can do sassy. It flips up on the bottom, but it barely hits my shoulders. When I got home I looked in the mirror again and thought, wow, that's a lot of hair she took off. I'm sure W won't love it, but at least a dozen people commented today and said it looked great, cute, bouncy. My nail tech said I look younger, as C had said yesterday. So, I'll take that. W can get over it. And it'll grow. While it does, I'll save a little money. My next two hair appointments will take me through 6 months since I don't have to highlight often, and neither appointment will have a 4o dollar haircut on the tab. Perfect.
Time to get supine. What the hell, I'll pour a glass of wine after all...but I suspect it might still be sitting there in the morning.
Hope all is well. Love, B
